Optical Coherence Tomography
Is OCT scan safe?
OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography) is a non-invasive method of capturing imagery of the retina using a low power laser beam. It is a safe, quick process as the method doesn’t use x-rays or air puffs.
What does OCT scan measure?
An OCT scan measures 3 things: an optic nerve head, a total retinal thickness and retinal nerve fibre layer (RNFL). The thickness measurement of RNFL is very important as it detects diseases like the ischemic branch, optic neuropathies and retinal vein occlusions.
